Shoutitout gets it own guns, patents Shout box

As our readers know Facebook and Shoutitout have been a little un friendly with each other recently. Facebook launching Facebook places target Shoutitout and getting a few patents then glancing at Shoutitout because they have something similar to the patent. Well, besides an amzing translation and music (which Facebook doesn't have either of) Shoutitout really doesn't have much to fight back with... in till today. As Mashable readers know Facebook just grabbed a patent for search not targeted at Shoutitout but Shoutitout just grabbed a patent for its Shout box, very much targeting Facebook. We don't think they plan to take legal action even though they could win at this time because if they do then Facebook will launch multiple patent suits agents Shoutitout, but this is probably Shoutitout's way of saying 500,000,000 users or not we will take you on any time any where. Shoutitout is also launching events soon so the advantage may sway to them at any time. Here is the patent sketch for those of you wanting to see it

You have 1,00000000000000000000000000000 unread emails, Gmail user runs out of Inbox space

It turns out that bottomless bucket of Gmail storage actually does have a bottom. Just ask Mike Monteiro, the most recent person to break Gmail’s usage cap.

So much for, “never delete an e-mail again.” When Gmail first launched in 2004, its massive storage space (then 1GB) was a highly touted feature. Over time, the amount of space made available to users has grown — by our count, it looks like standard Gmail and Google Apps users have about 7.3GB at their disposal today. However, users also now send larger e-mail attachments and archive more messages. Still, for non-corporate e-mail users, racking up more than 7GB in e-mail archives is a pretty impressive feat.

A few years ago, when some users first started to hit the ceiling for Gmail storage space, Google rolled out the ability to buy more storage. Nonetheless, it’s a problem Google doesn’t expect many users to ever encounter.

If we could offer one tip to the big G, it might be to remove that “Who needs to delete when you have so much storage?!” line from the Gmail Trash folder.

How close are you to “beating” Gmail? Mashable’s Adam Ostrow is at 94% — let us know your “score” in the comments!

Twitter launching official Tweet this button

Twitter is launching an official Tweet Button for sharing articles on websites and counting how many times a URL has been shared, according to documents Uhhmmnews has obtained. The Tweet Button could launch as soon as this Thursday.

We’re still diving into the details, but from what we can tell, the Tweet Button is designed to be the most comprehensive counter of retweets and shares across Twitter’s network. It is a single line of code that can be added to any website. There are three versions of the button (110×20, 55×20, 55×63) with five different settings for customization.
In fact, we have embedded the default Tweet Button below. While the embed code in fact works, the actual act of retweeting an article is not possible for most users, including us. According to our sources, only a few accounts currently have that ability activated:

The company that is most likely to be affected by this development is Tweetmeme, which powers most of the retweet buttons you see on websites and blogs across the web, including Mashable, Techcruch, and many other blogs.
Twitter could be directly competing with Tweetmeme, but we think it’s unlikely that Twitter would just spring this product on the world without talking to Tweetmeme first. We believe it’s likely the two companies have a deal, but don’t know what it would look like as of yet.

We have reached out to Twitter for comment. In the meantime though, we have included the documents and the code for embedding Tweet Buttons below. We’ll update this post with more details as the story develops.

Mashable the arguably biggest tech blog on the internet has upgraded the option to like its posts threw Facebook. They have also gotten rid of the Google Buzz button which in a way is a surprise because they talked so much about it. They have driven more attention to there Digg button, which they have been bashing a bit recently, they also still have that retweet button and a share of Facebook button which I think is were the Google Buzz button should be or heck, put a Shoutitout button there. They also like almost every blog have a button that allows you to share threw email. Then there is that huge Like button as shown above. So do you plan to add a similar button to your blog or site or are you going to stick to what you already have added? Let us know in the comments below!

Apple rolls out iPhone 4G Mashable goes down

Apple is rolling out there new iPhone as we speak at the WWDC10 conference in Apples California flag store. It will have iMovie which allows you to edit HD videos and upload them to Youtube, Vimeo, etc from the iPhone. It will also have live video chat conferences threw the iPhone which will work for things like Skype, not to mention they confirmed Bing will be taking over search for the iPhone from the long time holder Google.

Sometime during the mists of all this the tech blog giant Mashable has crashed. We are guessing its because they are updating rapidly whats going on and so many people are commenting it over loaded there servers but we can't confirm it yet. Mashable has not given a sign threw Twitter, Buzz or any other service that they are aware there site is down at the moment and we will update you as soon as they do and we hear or see it!
