Techcrunch loves the old Twitter logo

Techcrunch has changed its logo from the usual Techcrunch logo to what the old Twitter (twttr then) logo. There was a post earlier about Twitter and how much they liked the logo. Twitter may or may not still own copyright on that logo so just giving our friends at Techcrunch a heads up you might want to check to make sure just encase. We have no idea how long they will keep the logo up but we doubt it will be that long.

Digg is now attacking Twitter in every possible way, gets a "fail ox"

If you’ve been on the new Digg at all in the past day or so you’re probably already familiar with the above “Fail Ox” image, especially if you’re trying to use Digg search. The image is new, and is the result of Digg designer Tyson Rosage‘s obsession with the old school computer game The Oregon Trail.
Digg’s Kevin Rose told TechCrunch and Twitter last night that Digg experienced over 1 million unique visits on its launch day (the site has been averaging about 8.7 million unique visits per month, according to Comscore) as well as “a handful of new bugs.”

“We hope to have all the major issues fixed in the next 24hrs,” says Rose, which might affect the ubiquity of the “404″ page. Consensus among users I’ve talked to is that the site seems to be moving forward from the scaling issues it had yesterday both in terms of speed and in terms of frequency of “Fail Oxen.”

Hey, having a twee “something is broken” image seems to have worked out for Twitter.

Twitter launching official Tweet this button

Twitter is launching an official Tweet Button for sharing articles on websites and counting how many times a URL has been shared, according to documents Uhhmmnews has obtained. The Tweet Button could launch as soon as this Thursday.

We’re still diving into the details, but from what we can tell, the Tweet Button is designed to be the most comprehensive counter of retweets and shares across Twitter’s network. It is a single line of code that can be added to any website. There are three versions of the button (110×20, 55×20, 55×63) with five different settings for customization.
In fact, we have embedded the default Tweet Button below. While the embed code in fact works, the actual act of retweeting an article is not possible for most users, including us. According to our sources, only a few accounts currently have that ability activated:

The company that is most likely to be affected by this development is Tweetmeme, which powers most of the retweet buttons you see on websites and blogs across the web, including Mashable, Techcruch, and many other blogs.
Twitter could be directly competing with Tweetmeme, but we think it’s unlikely that Twitter would just spring this product on the world without talking to Tweetmeme first. We believe it’s likely the two companies have a deal, but don’t know what it would look like as of yet.

We have reached out to Twitter for comment. In the meantime though, we have included the documents and the code for embedding Tweet Buttons below. We’ll update this post with more details as the story develops.

Bit.ly dishing out 4.7 billion clicks a month

There are over 150 million clicks on Bit.ly links each day. The amount of data running through the service is massive, and continuing to grow at an incredible pace. But we’ve known that for a while. Just as impressive may be what Bit.ly is doing with its premium service, Bit.ly Pro.

Today, the service is announcing some of the huge names across the web have signed up to use Bit.ly Pro. Yahoo, MySpace, The Huffington Post, Politico, Pepsi, NPR, Scribd, Toys”R”Us, CSPAN, Dailymotion, IMDB, the New York Times, Bravo, Mozilla and Amazon have all joined in recent months. We started using the service shortly after it launched in December — those tcrn.ch you see all run through Bit.ly Pro.

There are now over 12,500 publishers and brands using the Pro version of the service, Bit.ly says — that’s more than double the number they released just two months ago. All told, there are over 1.7 billion monthly uniques for these Bit.ly Pro users.

Overall, Bit.ly hit 4.7 billion decodes (their term for clicks) in May. That’s nearly double what it was just this past February. The service is now the 76th most visited site on the web, according to DoubleClick.

Bit.ly is also announcing a new partnership today with Webtrends. Later this Summer, Webtrends will start incorporating Bit.ly data into its analytics packages.

You're not our boss

Techcrunch the number one online tech blog has switched its main search engine from Yahoo boss to Google custom search. Their custom search is pretty much the same as Mashables but a lime green instead of a light blue. Allot of sites seem to be releasing new searches recently the last time we had a search engine roll out war was in November 09' Starting with Google music and ending with Uhhmm games V.2.0 will this start another one?
