Its official Lala has shut down
Welp, after a long wait its finally official. Lala.com is now shut down. The popular music website was acquired by Apple and announced it was shutting down. Users could still use the site in till about 5 minutes ago. Lala was an amazing site and it will be missed but these things happen and we just have to get used to them. I'm guessing this is a hint that itunes might have a new roll out feature soon that is taking off from the great Lala feature that lets you change pages without inturupting the song.
Youtubers protest suspension of David Choi Music channel
Youtubers are protesting yelling and cussing out Youtube for suspending a popular Youtubers account for copyright infringement I believe. They are posting on Twitter things ranging from Shane Dawson Cussing them out to a hashtag calling youtube to "free" his music. This is risky for Youtube because things can get out of hand and these protesters are the biggest Youtubers on the web and what if they decide to go to Dailybooth or Vimeo?
Newer account that rarely posts owns Shoutitout Unlocks Influential badge
The newer Shoutitout @willyacefanpage is a fan page dedicated to William parish @willy and Ashton @ashton is a giant hit! It has more subscribers than @ashton does and is close to @willy it also has the Influential badge which it just unlocked on a Shout about breast cancer which is only the 2nd user on Shoutitout to unlock the Influential badge. @Willy has unlocked it on a post about @scknights winning a soccer game. This page has massive control over the trends on Shoutitout and we are subscribing to them!
Twitpic is down!
Twitpic the EXTREMELY popular 3rd party site allows you to share photos on Twitter, as most of you know and now... its down I tried to look at a picture a minute ago and got an error page, I refreshed and got it again, then I went to the homepage and got that same error page. So after panicking I went to down for everyone or just me and tried http://twitpic.com and it is down! As far as I can tell they do not no about the outage and it may just be a passing glitch. I was thinking it could be over capacity with Twitpic being the photo sharing site on the new Twitter for iPhone app.

Bing and Ask pass AOL
Bing and Ask have passed overall views per month this is a huge landmark considering that AOL used to be a massive power in the internet world and now they keep getting passed by more and more sites. This is a down fall of AOL but if the guesses are true and Yahoo buys AOL that would make the Yahoo AOL combination the biggest site on the internet for search passing everyone including Google. This is something AOL needs because they keep getting knocked farther and farther down. I do not use AOL search or email, I do have and ICQ and AIM but AOL sold ICQ and AIM isn't a very big instant messenger compared to Gtalk or Skype.
Ask has something no one ells does Recipes search!
Ask.com is a large awesome search engine and they have something you can search for that no one ells has that I just discovered, recipes! It shows a picture of what the cake or food item should look like and and part of the the recipes then you can go to the page and see the hole thing. The Ask.com banner and iframe thing doesn't show on these it just goes to the main page that the recipe is on. If you don't like it you can go back and find a different version of the same thing with almost the same taste! This is a major feature that I intend to use now that I know about it. This is something that pulls me away from Duckduckgo, Google, and Uhhmm as well so i'll be using Ask a little more than usual.

Britney hits 5,000,000
Its official Britney Spears is the first Twitter user to hit 5,000,000 followers. the @britneyspears account has gotten extremly popular and is the most followed on Twitter after passing Ashton Kutcher a week ago. This is a large landmark as she was no were in the running between CNN and Ashton for the battle for first to 1,000,000 followers. This is a lare break threw for Twitter as well being the fact that the most subscribed on Youtube is Nigahiga and he has about 2 and a quarter million. All thought Youtube is a much bigger site it proves users on Twitter are more active and more into what other users are upto in which they should be because this is what Twitter was desgined to be like.
Whats up with Thenextweb?
What is up with Thenextweb? When I go to it it gives me an advertising page or says that it cannot be found. However, when I go to downforeveryoneorjustme.com it says its just me and the site is up. So did they forget to re register there domain name or something? Anyone know? I'm not sure by the Twitter feed because no one has said Thenextweb and the next web has to many other meanings. It might be a repeat of what happened to Foursquare a few months ago, they forgot to re register there domain name. I'm not sure if Thenextweb uses Godaddy though so they might have there domain stolen.

Shoutitout purches Looz
With Shoutitout trying to get its site welcome for everyone, Lala shutting down tomorrow and a new site Looz starting to grow, Shoutitout has purchased Looz. This probably means that Looz will remain Shoutitout login only longer than it would have. It also means Looz will grow allot faster and have songs added allot quicker! They have aparently created the moto "Go Looz it!" as well. So GO LOOZ IT! This means that Shoutitout has one more thing no other social network has.

I FOUND A TWITTER GLITCH!!
I believe I have just discovered a Twitter glitch. When I hit Trending Topics on Twitter for the now trending #thankyoujustin then after noticing how stupid it was wanted to change to the Stanley Cup which was more intrisiting but when I tried to do this it refreshed the page and did not go to stanley cup but remained on #thanyoujustin I figured it was a minor glitch and tried it again, didn't work again the same result. Therefore, I conclude that I have discovered a Twitter glitch! I have a Mac running Safari does anyone ells have this issuse?

Random Review: Digg
Digg is a site were you share like and people "digg" them up the Digg rankings. Digg was the first site of its kind created followed by Reddit, Delicious etc etc. I frankly thing Digg is pointless. You get the ability to share links, well you can do thats on Twitter, Shoutitout, Facebook and many other sites just as easy if not easyer. Also if you like the link you can like a favorite it I mean what does Digging have to do with the internet? Another thing is Digg's company doesn't seem to be in a good shape. Though they aren't as bad as Myspace, they have had people resign and things that I actually licked removed because of it. They also have pretty much copyed Twitter with there new version. So my grade for Digg is a D-!
Twitter surpasses 15 billion tweets
Twitter has surpassed 15 billion tweets less than three months after it broke the 10 billion count.
The above tweet, sent minutes ago from @EGRK, is the 15 billionth tweet sent on the popular microblogging service. It is yet another milestone for the maturing company.
Tweet #15,000,000,000 is also proof that Twitter’s growth is accelerating. Twitter broke one billion tweets in November of 2008. It took nearly a year for it to reach 5 billion.
Tweet growth has been accelerating, though. Twitter surpassed 10 billion tweets on March 4th, 2010, growing by 5 billion tweets in just four months. Now it has jumped from 10 billion to 15 billion in less than three, showing that engagement is rising, not falling.
We want to note that tweet #15,000,000,000 may not correlate to the actual 15 billionth tweet, because the tweet IDs have been changed several times due to the Twitpocalypse. The count is artificially high, but it’s unclear by how much. Still, the engagement growth is a great indicator for the health of the Twitterverse.

Jaiku's most popular user
We aren't sure about this however I was typing random sites in on Compete and I go lets try Jaiku so I type in Jaiku.com and notice it has like 5 subdomains. api.jaiku.com, www.jaiku.com, so other ones then it had CheifTwit.jaiku.com and I start wondering what is this? So being me I try it out and it is actually a Jaiku user thats profile gets servral 1,000 views a month. The account is owned by Leo Laporte and as I remember I saw a video about Twitter VS Jaiku when Jaiku was still big news a few weeks ago and he was one of the two people in it. He has not posted since March 2009 which just goes to show how popular Jaiku is right now compared to how popular it used to be. In other words Jaiku used to be competition with Twitter, then after it wasn't able to pass Twitter everyone stopped using it and tried to get Pownce to pass Twitter, then it shut down so everyone went to Twitter and thats when they bad such a large user spark.
Random Review: Project Playlist
Project Playlist more commonly known as Playlist is a music social netowrk. I love Playlist however I think they think they are bigger than they really are. For example, they have purchesed domains golor like search.playlist.com it is a great site, free music, all these features and servral other great options however they also offer pointless things like "following" which absolutly does nothing and "comments" which no one really users on anyones profile exsept the small number of minor celebirties on the site and of course Project Playlists profile. If I had to pick between Project Playlist and Pandora i'd pick Pandora because of there application which Project Playlist is yet to create. If Project Playlist would launch an app I would download it. If I could put Project Playlist in Lala's place on May 31st I don't think I would because Project Playlist is completely free. So, on a grading scale of A,B,C,D,F I give Project Playlist a B-!
Foursquare will be the fist site to average 1 million check ins a day... in a a little bit
A tweet from Foursquare yesterday revealed that the company is doing “10+ checkins per second.” We did the math and at 10 checkins per second, Foursquare is processing about 36,000 checkins per hour — putting the daily checkin total somewhere around 864,000.
In fact, once Foursquare hits 11.58 checkins per second — a milestone foreseeable in the very near future — it will be processing over 1 million checkins per day.
Foursquare is all the rage right now and has been growing at an astronomical rate of late. Earlier this month we learned that the location-sharing mobile game is adding around 15,000 users per day. The company has also seen the checkin rate shoot up from one per second in January to more than ten checkins per second today.
We can attribute the company’s strategic allegiance with media companies like Bravo and retail corporations like Starbucks as primary contributing factors to Foursquare’s growth. It certainly doesn’t hurt that Foursquare has become a media darling — garnering mainstream attention for popularizing the location-sharing trend — in much the same way that Twitter did last year.
Update: Foursquare Co-Founder Dennis Crowley says that the 10 plus checkins per second figure was on a Wednesday night, and that the company is averaging 700,000 checkins per day. He projects to hit the 1 million mark by mid to late June.

Breaking: Shoutitout's first profile to hit 3,000 views
@willy the CEO of Shoutitout has become the first Shoutitout user to hit 3,00 views. This is a huge landmark for Shoutitout showing that its profile is expanding at a quick rate. In second is @ashton nearing 1,00 and @emily nearing 900 going into 1,000 shortly after most likely. The profile views are almost as intence as followers on Twitter. @willy has lead the profile views since the site launched back in late August Twitters top followed user is now Brittany Spears after she based another Ashton to take the lead about a week ago.
Duckduckgo adds privacy
Duckduckgo has added a privacy feature onto there "settings." They announced the updated in a tweet but you can see them here for yourself live. Google does not offer this kind of privacy on there search, neither does Yahoo, Ask, Bing or any other search engine. Duckduckgo has caught my eye as of recently because they are rolling out great new features and they are also getting bigger, quickly, very quickly. I started using it about 6 months ago then I went back to Uhhmm, Bing, and Google as usual. I've recently started using Duckduckgo again. Its extremely good for finding out information but if you want a pacific topic you might want to use Uhhmm. I will use Duckduckgo when I need something on a wide topic that would be on, for example, Wikipeida. When I need something like how to create a paper rocket and launch it off a tree with bad wind, well, i'll use Uhhmm for that.
Google Buzz adds the opposite of Re tweet and Re shout.... Re share
Google Buzz product engineers have been actively working to release one new feature each weeksince launch, with a total of 15 updates in 15 weeks. Today the team is releasing the “Reshare”
option as the 16th — and most requested — update
to the social aggregation platform.
Reshare is exactly what it sounds like — an option that lets Google Buzz users reshare any post in their stream with their own followers.
Reshare is similar to retweet on Twitter, but with a few key differences. By default, the Buzz offering supports user comments and users can reshare items either publicly or privately. The reshared item will identify the original author and even include a complete list, or “reshare chain,” of the people who shared it.
Reshare is actually a very sophisticated addition to the Google Buzz experience, and one that could help the product regain some of its lost luster.
How to Reshare on Google
The reshare option is sandwiched betweeen “Like” and “Email” at the bottom of every Google Buzz item. You can click it to reshare the item with your followers and start a new conversation thread.
When you select “Reshare,” you can optionally add your own comment on the item. You can also then determine whether you want to reshare the item privately or publicly with your followers.
Once you reshare an item, it will be posted to your own timeline with attribution to the author and a link to the original post (this is the opposite of how the retweet function works on Twitter).
Once an item as been reshared, it will update to highlight each of the Buzz users who have shared it publicly and outline the chain of reshares.
Buzz: The Big Picture
Gmail Product Manager Todd Jackson tells us that the goal of Buzz is to help the company solve the communication challenges of e-mail. “Gmail should be the world’s best communication tool,” says Jackson.
On that front, Jackson is confident that despite a dip in user activity — something he expected following the product launch — and initial privacy concerns, Buzz is doing quite well. He assures us that all the vital metrics are back on the rise, saying that there “millions of active Buzz users.” Jackson also points to measurable growth amongst heavy product users — those that check the Buzz tab more than 10 times per day.

Its official Apple is big...
It’s happened, Apple has zeroed in on Microsoft in terms of market capitalization and in doing so, has become the world’s biggest technology company.
In fact, the only American company valued higher is Exxon Mobil, with a market cap of $282 billion.
Anyhow, it’s official, Apple is now worth more than Microsoft. To put this in context, a decade ago when Ballmer became CEO, Microsoft MarketCap $556B, Apple’s $15.6B. Today, well take a look at the screenshot below for yourself.
Is Microsoft’s real problem, Ballmer after all? Time to resign?
Looking forward to seeing where things end up at stock market close today. There’s always a chance it could slip behind again but if it does, it’s certainly only temporary.

Twitter kills its first victim... Featuredusers
Well, this is interesting. As you probably know, Twitter yesterday made some changes to its Terms & Conditions, effectively banning third parties from inserting paid tweets into users’ timelines.
Further digging by Silicon Alley Insider and MediaMemo revealed that in addition, Twitter appears to also plan to start charging publishers and developers a cut of advertising revenue “where Twitter content is the basis (in whole or in part) of the advertising sale.”
If you’re interested in more details, Search Engine Land published a solid FAQ.
Hunch co-founder and investor Chris Dixon responded to the news (on Twitter, somewhat ironically) as follows:
Twitter is like a drunk guy with an uzi killing partners left and right. Expect investment in ecosystem to drop significantly.
Well it looks like the identity of the drunk guy’s very first victim is known: Twitter banner ad network Featured Users has apparently already put itself up for sale on Flippa.
There’s a chance that this is coincidental – the seller evidently doesn’t mention any of the above – but the timing suggests there’s a relation to yesterday’s announcements.
Featured Users, in a nutshell, is an ad network where Twitter users advertise their Twitter profiles on third-party Twitter applications and websites in order to gain exposure and ultimately, more followers. Developers and publishers can sign up and integrate ads into their website by including a simple line of JavaScript. Revenue is then split between the Featured Users ad network and the Twitter apps that serve the ads.
Whether Featured Users adheres to Twitter’s new T&C or not is not crystal clear, but even it does, it’s a dog. The service was only bringing in about $800 in net profits on a monthly basis, so you can imagine how interesting the business looks now that Twitter appears to be demanding publishers and developers for a cut of advertising revenue.
Unsurprisingly, there are no bids for FeaturedUsers.com yet.

Yahoo gets the next best thing
Yahoo announced today that it has acquired Koprol, a location-based social network in Indonesia. The service is similar to Foursquare and Gowalla, enabling users to connect and share photos, reviews and other information in real-time using their mobile phone browser.
This acquisition is especially interesting in the context of Yahoo’s new partnership with Nokia. Yahoo says it plans to continue to invest in the evolving Koprol service, including mobile applications, like its newly released app for the BlackBerry.
Yahoo explains that the company “is focused on providing personally relevant content to its global users on multiple devices and access points” and that it plans to “leverage the rich community of information generated by Koprol users to make its properties and applications, including its homepage and media and communications products, even more locally relevant.”
Still, it’s unclear why Yahoo is making this type of acquisition. It may be a strategic move for Yahoo’s Asia region, and the company may not intend to grow the network beyond the area.
How or if Koprol will hook into Yahoo’s other location-based tools and APIs, like Fire Eagle, has not yet been revealed.
What do you think of Yahoo’s latest acquisition?

Brittany passes Ashton taking #1 spot on Twitter
It’s official: Britney Spears has just become the top Twitter account, surpassing longtime Twitter king Ashton Kutcher by a margin of a handful followers at press time.
Each account’s actual number of followers continues to fluctuate by the second, but Spears seems to be maintaining a tenuous lead. Both users are still just shy of reaching 5 million Twitter followers and are predicted to reach this landmark figure within the next 30 days.
Spears’ Twitter victory flies in the face of conventional wisdom on how to use the social web. The @BritneySpears account is managed by the singer’s staff, and most of the tweets seen there are either promotional messages or “BS alerts” when unfavorable tabloid reports surface. Tweets from “Brit” or “Britney” comprise around a third of all tweets from the account, and we suspect some of those aren’t actually written by the star herself since updates posted from the web are often thrown up on the account when Spears is reportedly attending an event.
Kutcher was the first Twitter user to reach 1 million followers when he battled CNN for the top spot in April 2009. And last month, Kutcher’s account ranked far above Spears’ in popularity when the Twitter “accept” bug allowed users to force others to follow them back.
On Shoutitout despite profile views being the more popular challenge no celebrity has taken the control in fact besides @admin, @willy is in first in subscribers with 39 in second is @emily with 25.
Spears’ account may be just a marketing-message system for an inaccessible pop star, but her global popularity is apparently all the Twitter karma she needs. Still, between Ashton and Britney and Willy and Emily, whose updates would you rather read, if you had to choose?

Google continues there shopping spree
According to this blog post, Google has acquired online travel guide and community Ruba. Ruba is a visual travel guide and tour review site that provides travelers with visual guides written by other travelers. The blog post is embedded below. Google has confirmed the acquisition. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Ruba offer users a way to visually browse through cities and their attractions around the world, offering photo-rich guides and an emphasis on making it easy to quickly discover new locations. The site is headed by Mike Cassidy, who has founded a number of successful companies, including Xfire, which sold to Viacom in 2006 for $102 million.
Guides are all written and submitted by users, with Ruba pulling from Google and Flickr APIs to help pinpoint locations and provide some sample photos (users can submit their own, too). The site, which is similar in some ways to TripAdvisor, features integration with Twitter and Facebook Connect, allowing users to broadcast where they’re headed and ask friends for input.
Google says that Ruba will be integrated in iGoogle, Google’s personalized home page product. Google has been reportedly making a significant move to enter the online travel business, integrating hotel links into Maps and listing hotels with room rates. The search giant is also supposedly in talks to buy fare shopping software ITA software, according to the USA Today.
Hi friends, fans, and Ruba community members – exciting news from the Ruba team. We are thrilled to announce our team will be joining Google! As of Monday, May 24, we’ll be moving into the Google headquarters. We are totally excited to be joining such an amazing company.
For the past 15 months, we’ve worked to create a unique and fun visual travel site and community focused on guides, photos, maps, and interactive tour listings to improve the online travel research experience. The Ruba community has written amazing travel reviews which have inspired our own journeys and hopefully yours as well.
We want to thank the entire Ruba community (guide writers, local experts, bloggers, and more) for all you’ve done along the way. We’d also like to thank our tour operator partners for sharing their tours on our site. Thank you for sharing your feedback, ideas, and of course your travel tips and experiences with our community.

Yahoo: Shutting down or gunning up?
Yahoo! has made a couple of apparently high-cost moves, that many have been surprised about. The first, was Yahoo! getting approval for a new 46-acre headquarters in Silicon Valley. The second happened yesterday when Yahoo! acquired Associated Content. I thought about this a great deal last night, and my leading conclusion was that Yahoo! is putting all the pieces together to buy AOL.
So the first thing I did was check around the Internet to see if anyone recently had revived this idea since it was hot back in 2008. Lo and behold, two months ago (before either of these moves) Kara Swisher had just the same thought. So I’m not the only one.
Let’s take a look at these two moves. First, the new HQ. It’s huge, probably more than large enough to absorb many AOL employees (of course, there would inevitably be some jobs lost from this sale at first while Yahoo! cuts duplicates). Yes, most of AOL’s employees aren’t in the Valley – they’re in NYC, Washington and LA, but still, Yahoo! would need more room if they absorbed such a large company as AOL, and these headquarters would help. Also, the new HQ’s facilities will be an added incentive for attracting new employees that might be already interested in working at a Yahoo!/AOL.
The new HQ, however, isn’t nearly as telling as yesterday’s acquisition of Associated Content. First and foremost, Associate Content was co-founded by AOL president Tim Armstrong. The low-cost content producer was long expected to be purchased by AOL, which decided against it to build their SEED system (which from internal reports from AOL, no one likes). So now Yahoo! has grabbed this property away from not only AOL, but has made a preemptive move against soon-to-be-public Demand Media.
So with this one move, Yahoo! has weakened AOL’s position while making it’s CEO a rich(er) man. Of course, AOL is no long a part of Time Warner, so their market cap is US$2.44 billion, whereas Yahoo!’s as of today is US$21.75 billion so the chance of a merger is probably low – acquisition seems the much more likely than merger. Yahoo!’s profits were up in Q1 2010, but their revenue was flat, so the market cap has been pretty consistent for awhile now.
So what if Yahoo! makes a move? My guess is that AOL (and its shareholders) will happily bite. Yahoo! shareholders on the other hand, might not get why management would want to add more Web 1.0-ness to the brand, but the answer is clear: local.
Both companies are making the play to provide extensive content at the local level that they can serve adds display around (in a heightening battle with Facebook). A combined entity would give them arguably the best display ads salesforce on the Internet (Facebook will take years to catch up in that regard). Ad revenue across the Internet continues to climb, and the combined reach of a Yahoo! / AOL will be attractive to many large advertisers, especially as we continue to crawl out of the recession.
There are of course many other factors that will come into play for an acquisition of this size to happen, but in the end, it’s all about the bottom line, so if they combined strength of these two companies to advertisers is attractive enough, all of the other concerns will be details.
Oh, and as Kara Swisher points out, installing Tim Armstrong as CEO and Carol Bartz as Chairman would also make a lot of sense, and would be an exciting prospect for people that want to see Yahoo! succeed.
Lastly, I could be completely wrong, and Yahoo! could be in fact getting ready to sell itself to, “Any company at the right price.” Regardless, they seem to be making moves to do something big.

Mashable switches to Bing search
Cuil will still be a search engine it will just advertise its encyclopedia allot
Cuil the thought to be big start up that flopped recent launched a encyclopedia called Cpedia. Since then Cuil hasn't had any big or small news but apparently despite what they did at first Cuil will stay a search engine and they'll just advertise Cpedia as there main product. Also for the record Cpedia has been one of the biggest flops i've ever seen.

Will Cliqset be the next Friendfeed?
Cliqset the growing in popularity fast Friendfeed clone has and is continuing to gang on Friendfeed in site views according to Compete. The question is will it grow pass were Friendfeed was at one point or will it get bought out by some large company like Google who is yet to launch a site similar where as Facebook purchased Friendfeed and Microsoft has launched there own version of Friendfeed. If Cliqset gets past where Friendfeed was during its glory days I think it will become a giant website. If it is bought out before then it will fall to the ground as Friendfeed has.

Shoutitout removes location button
Shoutitout the most popular location posting site that isn't 100% dedicated has removed the base location option from there website. You still post locations from the apps but you know post in the shout "@ Walmart getting food for the party not" "Getting food for the parry Location: Walmart" This is actually good because it allows locations to get there self's into the trending topics.

Who Facebook really needs to worry about
I was looking around comparing some large sites when I decided why not compare Facebook and Yahoo I knew they were close. So I went to Compete to compare them and found out that Facebook is a small 2 million views ahead of Yahoo as of last month. Yahoo has also been closing in on Facebook so is Facebooks growth finally slowing down and is Yahoos picking up again?
